Juha KokkonenCEO

Juha joined Canatu in 2016. He has a deep understanding of mobile technologies due to his extensive experience in doing business with global consumer electronics companies. He has previously worked with Nokia, Nokia Networks and Microsoft holding a number of leadership roles such as General Manager of Windows Phones at Microsoft and Vice President, Lumia Product Management at Nokia. Juha’s expertise is particularly strong in product, innovation and business management. He has a track record of bringing number of innovations successfully to the consumer market. Juha has a MSc in Technology, Engineering/Industrial Management, Computer Science from the University of Oulu.

Erkki SoininenChief Operating Officer / VP Sales

Erkki joined Canatu in 2011. He has 20 years of experience in global electronics business. Before joining Canatu, he held various sales, business development, and technology management positions in Elcoteq, a global electronics manufacturing company. Prior to that, he worked for a display manufacturing company Planar Systems in R&D and business development. Erkki holds a Dr. Technology (PhD) degree from the Helsinki University of Technology in Finland.

Martti SonninenVP Manufacturing

Martti joined Canatu in 2013. He has worked over 25 years in display industry at Planar Systems and at Lohja Finlux Display Electronics in various positions in R&D, manufacturing engineering, operations and general management. He has broad background in thin film deposition and other technologies used in the manufacturing of high performance displays and extensive experience in ramping up various sophisticated manufacturing processes. Martti holds a MSc degree in Electronics/Semiconductor Physics and eMBA from the Helsinki University of Technology.

Ilkka VarjosVP Technology

Ilkka has previously worked for flexible electronics manufacturers such as Intune Circuits (RFID antennas and flexible circuits) and Enfucell (flexible batteries). Ilkka has long experience taking products from lab to fab, ramping up and developing processes for the use of electronics manufacturing as well as production of printed electronics. Ilkka joined Canatu in 2009 and has since been leading the development of deposition technologies and sensor products, and lately the whole R&D function. Ilkka has MSc in printing and converting technologies from the Tampere University of Technology in Finland.

Mikko KärkkäinenCFO

Mikko has held various positions as an venture catalyst for a range of emerging high-tech businesses. He was the co-founder & the CFO for a NFC technology company Widsen. Earlier Mikko also worked in Nokia External Venturing developing and analyzing the deal flow, and in other entrepreneurial finance consulting assignments through his personal consulting company HCH Consulting. He joined Canatu in 2007 from a coaching position in Helsinki School of Creative Entrepreneurship. Mikko holds a MSc degree and some Ph.D. studies from the Aalto School of Economics.

Titus SuckSales Director, Europe

Mr. Titus Suck joined Canatu in 2013.  He has an extensive experience in the electronics sector, especially in PCB manufacturing (introduced UV YAG Laser drilling) and PCB Assembly. He also has experience in several start-ups in UV curing technology, internet software and dry-process technology for non-woven materials. Over the last 20 years, Titus held management positions in European marketing, sales, business development and customer support. He holds an MBA in international management from Thunderbird, Ph.D. in comparative literature from the University of Oregon and Magister M.A.  from Tübingen University in Germany.

Mr. Bob Senior joined Canatu in 2013. He has founded and served in executive management positions in public and private touch-screen companies in Europe and the United States, and has an outstanding track record in initiating, developing, and closing B2B business in the global technology sphere. His previous roles include among other, President, isiQiri interface technologies, Executive Vice President, Noise Limit Inc, Board Director at FlatFrog AB, CEO at Taktio A/S (FlatFrog), Co-Founder and Managing Director Touch International, Vice President WW Sales MicroTouch Inc (3M Touch Systems), Managing Director and Vice-President (EMEA), MicroTouch Systems Ltd. He holds a B.Ed/Physics degree.

Yutaka NagataSales Director, Japan

Mr. Yutaka Nagata joined Canatu in 2013. Mr. Nagata has 44 years of experience in touch and display market in Japan and globally. Prior to joining Canatu, Mr. Nagata served as Director, Japan Business Development of isiQiri, President of PureDepth Japan, President 3M Touch Systems Japan, President of MicroTouch Japan, and President of Cognex Japan. Mr. Nagata received BSEE from Doshisha University, after graduation he joined Hitachi Electronics, where he had been developing Image Processing System.

Kerwin YenSales Director, Greater China

Mr. Kerwin Yen joined Canatu in 2014. Kerwin has 17 years of professional experience in the electronics industry, with the last 8 years in touch business in well-known Taiwanese touch module companies: VP of R&D at J-Touch and Mutto, and Sales Director at Light On Young Fast and SOE. Prior to that, he held various sales and marketing positions and built and managed new businesses in the UK and the USA for 3 years. He has a MBA degree and an industrial engineering degree from National Chiao Tung University in Taiwan.

Seongman YuSales Director, Korea

Mr. Seongman Yu joined Canatu in 2015. Seongman has extensive experience in senior business development and sales positions from large European and global electronics manufacturing and software companies. Before joining Canatu, he held the position of Korean Country Manager at Elcoteq and Ixonos. He has also worked for LG International and Elex computer. Seongman has a MBA degree from Sungkyunkwan University in Korea.

Sami LampinenChairman of the Board (Finland)

Mr. Lampinen is the Managing Director of Inventure, which he founded in 2005. At Inventure, Sami leads the investments in Canatu, Freespee, Silex Microsystems,Thinglink, Whitevector, and Upstream. Prior to Inventure, Sami held the Partner position in the technology team of CapMan, and worked as a management consultant at SIAR-Bossard/Gemini Consulting.

Prof. Yrjö NeuvoPh.D., Board Member (Finland)

Dr. Neuvo was Chief Technology Officer and a member of the Group Executive Board in Nokia in 1993-2006. His responsibilities included managing Nokia’s mobile phone R&D. Before joining Nokia, he was Professor at Tampere University of Technology, National Research Professor at the Academy of Finland and a visiting professor at Santa Barbara University in California, USA.Yrjö Neuvo received his Ph. D, in EE from Cornell University in 1974. Before joining Nokia, he had a 19 year academic career as Professor at Tampere University of Technology, as National Research Professor at the Academy of Finland and as a visiting professor at University of California, in Santa Barbara, USA. Currently he is Professor and Research Director at Helsinki University of Technology. He is also a Board Member of two listed companies (Metso and Vaisala) as well as Canatu. He has received four honorary doctorates. Asteroid 1938 DN carries his name.

Denis CherkasovPh.D., Board Member (Russia)

Mr. Cherkasov has entrepreneurial and private equity experience of more than ten years. Previous positions include CEO and founder of a niche mid-size publishing house (successfully sold to a strategic investor), senior investment executive within leading Russian and international private equity and alternative asset management firms (head of PE/VC practice), advisor to national VC development institutions. Currently he holds the position of the CEO and Chief Investment Officer of SBVC, a venture arm of Sberbank of Russia, a leading Eastern European banking group.

Denis is non-executive board member of number of public and private technology companies in Silicon Valley (CA, USA), Germany and in Russia. Denis has graduated from economic department of Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) and specialized on corporate governance and corporate finance while working on his Ph.D. in the Institute for the Economy in Transition (Egor Gaidar Foundation). Mr. Cherkasov is a member of Institute of Directors (IoD, London, UK) from where he holds his Diploma in Company Directorship, and is also a member of Supervisory Board of the Association of Independent Directors of Russia, where he Chairs Membership and Ethics Committee.

Dr. Kauppinen is a Physics Professor at the Helsinki University of Technology leading the NanoMaterials Group at the Center for New Materials and a Professor of Nanotechnology at the Finnish Technical Research Centre. He is one of the world’s leading authors in carbon nanomaterial synthesis, properties and applications. He is also one of the founding members of Canatu.

Dr. Brown has been the CEO of Canatu, Teicos Pharma, Particle Stream Technologies and StreamWise Finland, a Senior Research Scientist at the Helsinki University of Technology, a Fulbright Fellow and an engineering consultant to companies and research institutes worldwide. He is a leading expert in the modeling, design and scaling of synthesis reactors and deposition and characterization systems. He has a Ph. D in Environmental Engineering and an M.Sc. in Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics from the University of Cincinnati and a B.Sc. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Michigan. He is one of the founders of Canatu.

Dr. David BrownPh.D., Board member

He has lived and worked in the US, Finland and Japan.

Prof. Albert Nasibulin

Dr. Albert Nasibulin is a co-founder and a member of Technical Advisory Board of Canatu, a Professor at Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology and an Adjunct Professor at the Department of Applied Physics of Aalto University School of Science (former Helsinki University of Technology). He got his PhD in Physical Chemistry (1996) at Kemerovo State University (Russia) and Doctor of Science (Habilitation, 2011) at Saint-Petersburg Technical State University (Russia). He has specialized in the synthesis of nanomaterials and investigation of their growth mechanism. At the moment his main recent research topic is devoted to transparent, flexible and conductive single-walled CNT films and their applications for energy harvesting and storage. He has a successful background in an academic research with over 180 peer-reviewed scientific publications and 15 patents.

Dr. Hua Jiang

Dr. Hua Jiang is a co-founder of Canatu. He currently serve as a Senior Research Scientist in the Department of Applied Physics of Aalto University (previously known as Helsinki University of Technology). He received his Ph. D. in 1998 from Beijing Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Since then he has been exploring in the field of electron microscopy and its applications in nanomaterials, especially in nano-carbon structure for about 15 years. Dr. Jiang invented a novel method for unambiguous atomic structural determination of single-walled carbon nanotubes by electron diffraction technique with a transmission electron microscope, meanwhile developed systematically a series of methods for structure characterization of graphic or graphitic-like tubular structure. He has published more than 80 peer-reviewed scientific papers.
